I’ve read a lot of accusations lately that the Mormon Church claims to know everything. I’ll try to disabuse you all of this notion. The Mormon Church does have the whole true Gospel of Jesus Christ, but that doesn’t mean that we know everything about God or the world. We can’t explain all of God’s commandments; we must simply have the faith to follow them.

Having the full Gospel of Jesus Christ doesn’t mean knowing everything Christ knows, it means knowing everything we need to know to be saved in the Kingdom of God. The Gospel of Jesus Christ preaches faith. Sometimes God tries our faith when we can’t know why he makes things the way they are. We have to believe in the teachings of a God who wants what is best for us, even when we don’t know how those things could possibly make us happy.

We don’t have all the answers, but we do have enough answers to get us through this life. We have everything we need to be right in the eyes of God and to live the way he would have us live.

Many times, when we question our faith, if we go to God in prayer, we can find an answer to our question. Other times, we may receive the faith necessary to set that question aside. Sometimes, the questions of our faith are answered later in life, and others may not be answered until we meet with God.

I know that if we continue to obey God and keep His commandments, we can make it. Even if we question what God has said, or if he has said it at all, if we keep on obeying God, and let our questions be set aside while we do God’s work, we can return to God.

I know that the Mormon Church is the way back to God. I know that every time I have a question of my faith, there is an answer. I have prayed to Heavenly Father to know the answer, and while sometimes he lets me understand why Mormonism is true, other times he only reassures me that Mormonism is true. The Holy Ghost testifies to me that I am in the right Church, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

God has given me what I need to return to Him, and it is in the truth: the beliefs and doctrines of the Mormon Church.

Mormon Testimonies

April 5, 2007

Just recently I had the chance to post my testimony on MormonTestimonies.org. Mormon Testimonies is a wiki (a web site anyone can post to or edit) where members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints can post their testimonies. It is a criticism-free site, and a wonderful place to feel the spirit of Jesus Christ.

For anyone wondering what Mormons believe, this site has the candid truth. The core beliefs of Mormonism are always found in testimonies. If you’ve never met a Mormon, this is a great place to find out a little bit about them. Nothing quite compares to a sweet testimony of the Savior, Jesus Christ.

Submitting to a Husband?

March 26, 2007

Before I got married, I read in the New Testament about women needing to submit to their husbands. Now, if there’s anything that will get a woman to choose a good husband, it’s that. If you’re going to spend your life submitting to someone, he’d better be very generous, kind, and considerate. In Mormon Doctrine, though, this doesn’t mean that a wife is second class. It says in the Proclamation to the Family that husbands and wives are “equal partners,” meaning that we make choices together.

Husbands “presiding” over their wives is simply a priesthood function, and it has more to do with service than anything else. A husband holds the power of the priesthood, and he should use that power for his family’s well being. Worthy priesthood holders will never use their authority to manipulate, abuse, or mistreat anyone. A husband has the power to advise his family with the power of God on his side. He is an asset to the family in this way, just as the wife has abilities in other areas. A husband cannot use the priesthood to bless himself or give himself power, he’s just given authority to call it down from God for the benefit of his family. As a woman, I don’t have that particular authority; however, I do gain all of the benefits of it.

Back on the topic of choosing a mate, it’s essential that the man be a worthy priesthood holder if his wife and children are going to benefit from his presiding over them, just like a woman needs to have certain qualities so she can lead her family well.

Hello world!

March 26, 2007

Hello! My name is Amy, and this blog is about my life as a Mormon woman. The most important thing about being a Mormon woman? I love it! I have amazing learning opportunities available to me through the Church, and I find peace and satisfaction in the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
